Boden's Mate

In Boden's mate two attacking bishops on criss-crossing diagonals deliver mate to a king usually obstructed by friendly pieces. Usually the checkmated king has castled queenside, and is mated on c8 or c1, but not necessarily, as we can for example see in the game Alekhine-Vasic, where the the mated king never left e8. Often the mate is preceded by a sacrifice that opens up the diagonal on which the bishop delivers checkmate. The mate has its name from Samuel Boden and the game shown here. However, it had been known previously from the game Horwitz–Popert, Hamburg 1844.
